SUMMARY
A reputable Bank is seeking to recruit a qualified candidate for the role of Head, Institutional Banking to drive the establishment, negotiation, maintenance and control of an institutional network of banking relations necessary for the provision of efficient banking services to the target market with focus on profitable growth in market share and customer base, liability growth (mobilizing deposits to fund asset creation) and asset growth (from prospective and existing borrowing customers), effective market engagement and promotion of the Bank’s products and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Facilitates the development and implementation of the Institutional Banking strategy in line with the overall Banking Strategy to ensure achievement of profitability targets through revenue maximization and prudent cost management with focus on enhancing the bank’s market share and gain competitive edge

Builds and maintains productive and strategic relations/partnerships with Government and Multilateral Institutions, Donor Agencies and Not-for Profit/Non-Governmental Organizations/ Suppliers/ customers and other Stakeholders to drive the development and delivery of Liability business solutions and revenue growth for the specific sectors or portfolio

Liaises with Risk Management Group (RMG) to advise on service performance standards and to stay ahead of any changes in the financial condition of institutions within IDB network of financial relations

Evaluates the quality level and cost-effectiveness of institutional network of banking services

Scans the environment and gathers business intelligence that can facilitate the identification of business opportunities, business development and growth imperatives within the Institutional banking market segment

Identifies and pursues new business opportunities from both existing and new business customers, by analyzing opportunities to up sell and maximizing the full banking relationship

Provides clear direction on all Institutional banking operations by translating set corporate objectives to corporate and investment banking performance metrics and drives the business sales team to achieve set targets

Works in close partnership with Senior Managers in Credit Risk Management, Trade Finance, Investment Banking, SMEs and Group Head of Credit Risk Management to ensure that the credit requests for new and existing facilities are correctly prepared in accordance with bank policies and BOT

Negotiates terms and conditions and oversees the preparation of credit applications for new loan facilities for Institutional Banking clients

Manages the corporate loan book within parameters provided by Risk Management /Management Board

Coordinates the cross selling of Structured Trade and Commodity Finance-, Treasury- and Payment products

Identifies customer needs, initiates action to improve and develop new corporate banking and investment products

Reviews all business credit applications and business plans/financial analysis and monitors the booking of credit facilities to ensure adequacy and within approved limits

Supervises the monitoring of loan accounts on a regular basis in order to avoid non-performing assets and improve profitability

Liaises with Branding and Corporate Communications unit to develop corporate banking and investment advertisement and sales promotion plans

Drives continuous marketing efforts to mobilize funds from the Institutional customers

Develops and maintains a motivated and high performing corporate banking and investment teams that are committed to achieving business banking targets

Represents the Bank in various business functions to further enhance its image and develop additional business.

Monitors service delivery quality to ensure standards are maintained in order to achieve high customer retention, and facilitates strong customer relationship management to drive growth in market share

Reviews and authorizes corporate banking credit applications from account managers prior to submission to Risk Management
-
Provides regular credit reviews of Institutional Banking clients and defends initiated credit applications when presenting to the Credit Committee

Provides market intelligence in supporting the Bank’s efforts to develop new products and new value –added services for clients

Reviews adequacy of credit proposals and makes appropriate recommendations to guide informed management decisions

Monitors to ensure full compliance with the Bank’s customer engagement/management policies to ensure achievement of Know Your Customer (KYC) targets
REQUIRED SKILLS

Knowledge of accounting and banking principles
-
Strong marketing and business development skills
-
In-depth understanding of banks credit process and credit policy
-
Sound knowledge of all business banking and investment products

Relationship management experience in the banking sector

Business and financial analysis
-
Good experience of lending at a corporate level and exposure to credit and sophisticated corporate products

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum of Bachelor degree in Finance/ Accounting or Business Administration and Management or related field
-
An MBA (or Master’s degree) is an added advantage
-
Professional Qualification in ACCA, etc.
-
Minimum of 7 years of related experience in a bank or related department with at least 5 years heading a business/corporate/Institutional banking function at senior management level
