On 1 July, Sierra Leone's Department of Science, Technology and Innovation launched the Coursera Workforce Recovery Initiative, a partnership with Coursera, to provide over 4,000 free courses and specialisations to 50,000 Sierra Leoneans over a period of six months. At the end of September, the deadline for enrollment was extended to 31 October, with 31 December being the date to complete the course in order to receive a free certificate.
As at 29 September, only 23,000 learners had enrolled, with a whopping 68,957 lessons taken. A short survey among JobSearch subscribers showed a mix of diploma and degree holders, as well as professionals had completed an average of three courses each. They cited access to the internet as their top challenge of learning online, but advised others to make the sacrifice for their development. JobSearch also provided its space for free to learners who wanted to use its internet.
It is not too late to enrol. You can do so by visiting https://dsti.gov.sl/coursera today or tomorrow, 31 October 2020. Don't miss out on an opportunity like this if you don't have to. Good luck!
